The North Atlantic Audi Club (NAAC) invites you to enjoy a leisure Tour around the Quabbin Reservoir and learn how your get your drinking water in the greater Boston area, as well as learning about the towns that no longer exist.
The check-in opens at 9 AM with the tour leaving at 10 AM from the Dunkin’s Parking Lot, 139 West St. (Route 32) Ware, MA. The tour will be approximately 80 miles in length approx. 3 miles of dirt roads as we access down to the water’s edge. Detailed route instructions will be provided at registration. Entry fee is $30 per vehicle, with registration at MSR.com. FYI, No animals are allowed on this tour.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is steward to one of the largest state park systems in the country. Its 450,000 acres is made up of forest, parks, greenways, historic sites and landscapes, seashores, lakes, ponds, reservoirs and watersheds.
DCR’s division of Water Supply Protection manages and protects the drinking water supply for 51 Massachusetts communities, mainly in the Greater Boston acres.
For thousands of years, this valley was part of the territory of the Nipmuc Indians, who referred to the area as Quabbin, or “the meeting of many waters”.
The tour will end at the Stone Cow Brewery in Barre MA. And also has Pub food.
